The Institute for Money, Technology and Financial Inclusion at the University of California,
Irvine, was founded in 2008. Its mission is to foster a community of inquiry and practice
on new forms of money and financial technology among the world’s poorest people. IMTFI
awards fellowships to researchers in the developing world to conduct 12-month projects,
many with a strongly qualitative component. The following pdf presents IMTFI’s Design
Principles evolved from the first year.
